Cassandra Tried...
Copyright K. Kozak, 2008. ===
Cassandra tried and cried and tried;
She saw the truth, but no one believed her;
Neither friends, nor King Priam's own family...
Apollo gave her the gift of divine
prophesy,
But, rejected by her, withdrew believability...
Almost as if she were mute or invisible, or
Perhaps, in her passionate desire to inform,
Her manner cancelled out her urgent
messages....
She warned of the tragic, ancient Trojan War,
Fought by gods and goddesses and
soldiers...
She divined the ultimate purpose of Ulysses'
Treacherous Trojan Horse, still unheeded --
She saw the final destruction of her beloved
Troy;
Still, no one listened to her desperate
visions...
Cassandra kept wanting to warn, to help, to
belong;
And her intensity only made others
uncomfortable.
