As an organization, NWIM provides intelligent individuals, an opportunity to meet other smart people on the local level. Mensans interact at entertaining events and exchange ideas through a variety of publications. Mensa members also work to help others in their communities by providing scholarships and volunteering for community-oriented activities.
Mensa "provides a forum for intellectual exchange among members. Its activities include the exchange of ideas by lectures, discussions, journals, special-interest groups, and local, regional, national, and international gatherings; the investigations of members' opinions and attitudes; and assistance to researchers, inside and outside Mensa, in projects dealing with intelligence or Mensa." [Mensa Constitution]
Mensa is an international society that has one - and only one - qualification for membership: a score in the top 2% of the population on a standardized intelligence test.
